Buthaina Abdulghani: Coordination across various training domains and the rooting of a culture of dialogue

Dr. Hayat Maarafi: Strengthening the dialogue capabilities of national talent and equipping them with debate skills

Qatar Debate Center, a member of Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, signed a memorandum of understanding with Abdullah Abdulghani Foundation for Civilizational Communication (“Hadara”). The signing took place in the presence of Mrs. Buthaina Abdullah Abdulghani, Chairperson of the Board of Hadara; Dr. Hayat Abdullah Maarafi, Executive Director of Qatar Debate Center; and a number of guests from both sides, at the Center’s headquarters in Education City. The memorandum focused on the shared aspiration for cultural exchange and cooperation across all domains of training and educational activities, the fostering of a culture of dialogue and the art of debate, the preparation of future leaders, and the strengthening of educational dimensions.

Mrs. Buthaina Abdulghani expressed her delight and appreciation for the partnership with Qatar Debate Center, stating: “We benefited greatly when we first engaged with Qatar Debate Center seven years ago, in 2010, through a debate titled ‘Doha, Capital of Arab Culture,’ which was organized by the Center and hosted as part of the ‘Tala’aqa’ Cultural Week held by the Foundation at that time. “She added:” This signed memorandum of understanding represents a meaningful bilateral collaboration between Hadara Foundation and Qatar Debate Center, aimed at shaping the foundations for preparing future leaders and supporting the remarkable efforts across the State’s various institutions to realize Qatar’s vision in developing people’s intellectual and professional capabilities.”

She noted that the Center’s role in community development has extended beyond the walls of schools and universities, playing a vital role in supporting community institutions to achieve their objectives.

She continued: “We share with Hadara Foundation a wide array of objectives and values, foremost among them the preparation of qualified national talent across the fields of cultural, social, and intellectual sciences.” She added: “Among our future plans with the Foundation is leveraging joint projects to serve the community — particularly the educational and training track — with the aim of delivering mutual development for members of both the Center and the Foundation, each within their respective specialization. This includes the Center’s participation in the Foundation’s future conferences and events, as well as cooperation on the Foundation’s projects with Qatar University and other entities in the areas of leadership curricula and thinking skills.”

For her part, Dr. Hayat praised the agreement and the forward-looking plans it embodies — plans that serve the public interest and are designed to implement strategic directions in the most effective manner, while upholding the required standards of quality in accordance with established systems.

She added: “In line with the vision of Qatar Debate Center, this meeting comes within the pursuit of strengthening the dialogue capabilities of national talent and equipping them with debate skills connected to our daily lives, along with their effectiveness in finding solutions to the various issues facing our youth.”
